Our Practices

Our Unique Process

Good for the Planet & Community: Backyard Farm Fresh grows food in an environmentally friendly way, using aquaponic methods that require a fraction of the land and only 5% of the water compared to traditional farming. Our farms avoid chemical use, protecting soil, groundwater, and local wildlife while absorbing carbon to grow vibrant plants and vegetables. Additionally, we donate at least 10% of our produce to local food banks, providing high-quality, nutrient-rich food to those in need each month. By choosing our produce, you support both a healthier planet and your community.

Harvesting at Optimal Ripeness: Produce is picked at optimal ripeness for maximum flavor and nutrition, unlike commercial growers who pick early and use gas to ripen. This results in shorter shelf life but superior quality. Minor imperfections like splits or scars may occur due to natural outdoor conditions, but can enhance antioxidant content. Harvesting at this time has a shorter shelf life, but the flavor and nutrition provided by ripening before harvest outweighs this for us.

Dedication to being NonToxic: Instead of toxic pesticides, which harm beneficial bacteria, the farm employs a five-pronged pest management approach: cultivating robust plants, conducting daily pest inspections, introducing beneficial insects, and using safe sprays like garlic or insect soap, with occasional bug bites serving as proof of chemical-free produce.

Local Pickup: Local pickups are at the heart of how Backyard Farm Fresh brings our community the freshest, most flavorful produce from our aquaponic farm. Unlike conventional farms that ship to stores, we harvest at peak ripeness for maximum nutrition and taste, not for longer shelf life. When you place your order by Saturday, we often pick produce still growing in the Florida sunshine, ensuring it reaches your local pickup with exceptional freshness.
